THE RAIN BAND (UK)

Founded in 2011 into the legendary Manchester music scene, the five piece indie rock band consisting of Martin Finnigan, Phil Rainey (former band mate of Peter Hook in Monaco), brothers Joe and Sam Wilson, and James Cowell have achieve
...d critical and commercial success.
The Rainband’s single ‘Rise Again’ entered the top 10 indie charts upon its release in June 2012. ‘Rise Again’ also broke through in Italy, remaining in the Virgin charts for fourteen weeks and peaking at number 5. Released in tribute to late Moto GP rider Marco Simoncelli and in aid of the Simoncelli Foundation, ‘Rise Again’ has helped raise over €45,000 so far. Martin Finnigan continues to work for the Foundation as UK Ambassador as well as working for several other charities including The River Reeves Foundation.
The release of their first album ‘Satellite Sunrise’ in 2016, with singles ‘Sirens’ and ‘Storm’, was successfully received with ‘Sirens’ chosen to be ‘Big Tune of the Week’ on Absolute Radio and gaining air time on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio Manchester. On the back of the release The Rainband embarked on a European tour playing venues across the UK and Italy, selling out such venues as Manchester’s Band on the Wall and playing the main stage at the Isle of Wight Festival. They continued to tour on this album playing festivals across the UK, including Glastonbury, and often supporting well known acts such as the Kaiser Chiefs, Simple Minds, Paulo Nutini, Ocean Colour Scene, and more recently Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet.
2018 has proved to be a big year for The Rainband with the release of their second studio album ‘The Shape of Things to Come’. Written over the last two years it is described as ‘a brighter and more optimistic response to The Rainband’s moodier and bluesier predecessor Satellite Sunrise’. The album includes songs ‘Gimme Love’ and ‘Heading South’ which have been a staple of performances over the last 18 months and have already received air time on both XS Manchester and BBC Radio Manchester courtesy of Clint Boon and Mike Sweeny respectively. BBC Radio 6 Music also featured ‘Gimme Love’ as their track of the week and the album, which was released in February, has received raving reviews from around Europe. The album was followed up by a UK tour stopping at venues such as Glasgow’s famous King Tuts and Manchester’s Deaf Institute and a busy summer season where the band performed at over fifteen festivals in both the UK and Europe. The band are now taking a short break from gigging to write some new material with the aim to have a new single out by early 2019.
The band have always kept their feet firmly rooted to the ground and their love for their music means that no stage is too big nor too small. They are often seen headlining local festivals around Manchester, as well as featuring on the bills of national festivals with more opportunities like these expected this year. This has earnt them rave reviews from the likes of Liam Gallagher, Jim Kerr, and many music journalists across the board leading to press from the likes of the Rolling Stone Magazine and being tipped for greatness along the way.
With high-shine production, The Rainband’s sound is a noteworthy example of how the genre can manifest itself in
pop music today. Calling on a medley of guitars, keys, smashing drums and Martin Finnigan's vocal power, the
powerful rhythms and epic melodies the band are widely acclaimed to have cemented their seat at new independent
rock’s head table.
